Happy Winter Solstice!
Writers often believe they need to be productive every single day. That’s not true. Nature has organizing principles, and one of them is that everything goes in cycles (or, more poetically, “To everything there is a season.”)
As many of you know, I’m a big proponent of allowing ideas to percolate and simmer, rather than trying to yank them or force them out. The depth of winter, with short, cold days and long, even colder nights, is prime percolation time.
If you’re working on something and you feel in the flow, go for it. I’m not saying don’t write. But if—like many of us—you just want to curl up with a hot chocolate and fall asleep while binge-watching cheesy holiday movies, that’s totally fine, too.
Courses coming in 2025—please vote below!
I’ve been busy brainstorming courses for the new year, and I’d like your input about which to create first. These will be short, self-guided courses with video and text from me, priced between $27 and $47.
I’m also working on some longer courses that will include much more detail and Zoom calls with me.
Here are the one-line descriptions:
The Law of Increasing Flow: How to write more, better and faster by learning your creative rhythms rather than daily word count.
Characterization: How to bring real people to life on the page, so readers can see, hear and feel them as vividly as you can.
Think Like a Camera: Increase your odds of selling streaming rights by learning to create scenes that help execs visualize your story as a movie or limited series.
Show, Don’t Tell: Writers hear this all the time, but what does it really mean? How can you bring readers inside your experience?
How to Write a Book Proposal: Everything you need to know to write a standout book proposal. This one will have an add-on group coaching option.
Please choose one option below. You’re also welcome to send me feedback on these course ideas, or what courses you would like to see.
Happy Holidays!
May you and your loved ones have an ideal-for-you holiday with moments of peace and plenty of joy.
